Evolution - GCSE Religious Studies Definition

Evolution is the scientific theory that explains the development of life on Earth through a process of gradual change and adaptation over millions of years. Proposed by Charles Darwin in the 19th century, this theory suggests that all species, including humans, have descended from common ancestors through a process called natural selection. Natural selection is where individuals with traits better suited to their environment have a higher chance of surviving and reproducing, passing those traits to the next generation. In GCSE Religious Studies, understanding evolution can help students explore and discuss how this scientific perspective can coexist or contrast with various religious beliefs about the origins of life and the universe.
