Transcendence - GCSE Religious Studies Definition

Transcendence refers to the concept of existing beyond or above the everyday physical and material world. In the context of GCSE Religious Studies, it is often used to describe the nature of divine beings or deities such as God in monotheistic religions. Transcendence suggests a higher state of being, with beings or entities that are considered to exist outside and independent of the physical universe and its limitations, and are considered to go beyond human understanding and experience. This highlights the idea that the divine cannot be fully comprehended through human senses or reasoning. This concept is crucial when exploring the relationship between humanity and the divine, as it underscores the sacred and often mysterious nature of religious belief and spiritual reality.
