Median - GCSE Biology Definition

In GCSE Biology, the term "median" refers to the middle value in a set of numbers when they are arranged in order from smallest to largest. If there is an odd number of values, the median is simply the number that is exactly in the middle. However, if there is an even number of values, you find the median by adding the two middle numbers together and dividing by two. The median is a useful way to find the typical value in a set, as it is not affected by extremely high or low numbers that can distort the mean (average) in scientific data.
