Literacy Rate - GCSE Geography Definition

The literacy rate is a measure that shows the percentage of people in a certain area or country who can read and write. It helps us understand how many people have the basic skills to read books, write letters, and understand written information. A high literacy rate usually means that most people have access to education and learning. In Geography, we use literacy rates to compare how different countries or regions are doing in terms of education and development. A low literacy rate can suggest that there are fewer opportunities for education in that area.
