The "line of best fit" is a straight line drawn through a scatter plot of data points that shows the overall direction of the data. It represents the best estimate of the relationship between two variables, helping to identify trends or patterns.
In GCSE Maths, students learn to draw this line to make predictions about one variable based on the other. The line doesn't need to pass through every point but should be positioned so that the distances from the line to all the points are as small as possible. This makes it useful for making educated guesses about what might happen next based on existing data.
