The width of a shape refers to the distance between one side of it and the opposite side. It is usually shorter than the length of a shape (think swimming!). In three-dimensions, a shape will have a width, length and height or depth. Understanding and identifying the width of shapes allows us to solve a range of geometric problems, including those involving area and volume.
