Mean - GCSE Psychology Definition

In GCSE Psychology, the term 'mean' refers to the average value of a set of numbers and is used to summarise data. To find the mean, you add up all the numbers in a dataset and then divide the total by the number of values there are. For example, if you have test scores of 5, 7, and 9, you add them to get 21, then divide by 3 (because there are three scores) to get a mean of 7.
The mean helps us understand what is typical or usual in a set of data, making it useful for comparing different groups or results in psychological research.
