IB exam resit dates for other subjects

We’ve covered the resit dates for the most popular IB courses, but if you’re planning on retaking a different IB course, you can find the complete IB exam timetable for November 2025 here.

How to prepare for IB resits

After months of work to prepare for your IB exams, the thought of doing it all again might feel overwhelming. But resits give you the opportunity to refine your revision strategy, fill any gaps in your knowledge, and walk into the exam stronger and more confident than before.

Here’s how to make the most of your IB resits.

Create a revision timetable

Start by building a revision schedule that actually works for you. Take into account classes, study breaks, part-time work and downtime.

Here’s how to approach it:

  • Focus on the subjects or papers that you struggled with most last time

  • Space things out so you’re not cramming the week before exams

  • Build in time for attempting practice papers and completing mock exams—especially under timed conditions

With the right prep, you'll find revision much smoother.

Rethink your revision strategy

The IB isn’t about memorising your notes word-for-word. It’s about understanding complex concepts, being able to connect ideas and apply them under pressure.

So let’s move beyond passive revision and try out these tried-and-tested strategies:

  • Active recall – Use flashcards, do a brain dump (also known as ‘blurting’), or test yourself on key concepts with no notes in sight

  • Practice papers – The IB has a very specific exam style. Attempting practice papers that mirror the real exam format will help you to master command terms and timing

  • Spaced repetition – Ditch the cram-and-forget cycle. Review topics regularly and build long-term memory by spacing out your revision

  • Mind mapping – Especially useful for sciences and humanities subjects, use mind maps to link concepts and see the bigger picture

  • Teach it to someone – If you can explain complex topics to a friend or family member, you’re showing deep understanding

Rethinking how you revise is the smartest move you can make this time around.

What is the deadline for IB resits?

The deadline for IB resits depends on which exam session you're registering for. In this case, if you’re registering for the November 2025 exam session, the deadline typically falls in July.

The exact date has not yet been published, so check with your school’s IB coordinator to confirm.

When is IB resit results day 2025?

For students resitting their IB exams in November 2025, you’ll get your resit results on 16th December 2025 from 9.00pm GMT.

If you decide to resit your IB exams in the next summer session (April-May 2026), you’ll get your results on IB results day 2026. This is expected to fall in early July.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many times can I resit IB exams?

You can resit the IB exams as many times as you like! The IB used to impose a three-session rule for all candidates, meaning students could only resit their IB exams three times. However, this changed in 2023, and there are now no limits.

What happens if I do worse in an IB resit?

Good news—if you do worse in your IB resit, it won’t replace your original result. However, universities will have access to both sets of grades, so you should bear this in mind as they may question why your grade declined.

Do I have to pay to resit IB exams?

Yes, you’ll typically be expected to pay a fee to resit your IB exams. The exact cost varies depending on which country you’re in, so check with your school’s IB coordinator for more information.
