Smart Mark is a game-changer for automated marking. It’s proven to be better than just using general ChatGPT with basic prompts, which is what most students typically do.
We ran two experiments to prove just how well Smart Mark works:
We used our own detailed mark schemes
We asked ChatGPT to make its own mark scheme using just the question and how many marks it was worth
We tested these across different subjects, levels, exam boards, and types of questions. Expert examiners gave the official "correct" marks for each answer, so we could compare.
In the first test, Smart Mark was 20% more accurate and made 30% fewer marking mistakes compared to other methods. This means it grades answers more precisely and consistently. It's built right into our Exam Question tool and uses top-quality mark schemes and supporting information, so it's really easy to get clear, reliable feedback.
In the second test, designed to match how students usually use general ChatGPT, Smart Mark did way better. It was 69% more accurate and made 58% fewer marking mistakes. When we compared the results with expert examiners, general ChatGPT had only matched them "fairly well," but Smart Mark matched them "extremely closely."
This big difference shows how misleading and potentially dangerous generic ChatGPT usage can be. By reducing the need for manual reviews, copying and pasting information endlessly and developing your own custom marking prompts, you will have more time to focus on your studies. Smart Mark delivers exam-specific reliability and performance you can trust for assessment.

FAQs
How is Smart Mark better than Chat GPT?
Smart Mark’s feedback is tailored to a specific subject and exam board. We’ve trained Smart Mark to assess answers based on actual mark schemes, giving you the most accurate & specific feedback. Because of this, Smart Mark always provides feedback that accurately reflects how you will be marked in an exam, in a way that generic AI tools can’t. In order to get maximum marks, your response must align with what that specific exam board teaches. ChatGPT (and other generic AI tools) provide generic feedback that does not reliably align with exam-specific mark schemes, and so may give misleading or incorrect responses, which can be harmful to learning development. Other issues like hallucinations can be overly harsh or too generous. For example, they could give you positive feedback for an answer that generically answers the question but doesn’t use the specific language that that particular exam board is looking for, and so you wouldn’t actually get the marks in a real exam.
