What is examined in the CIE A-level business Paper 1?

• This paper is focused on AS Level syllabus content and is called Business Concepts 1

• The paper's duration is one hour and fifteen minutes

• The total number of marks available is 40

• Paper 1 represents 20% of the qualification total

• It is made up of two sections

Section A

• Section A contains four compulsory questions of five marks each

• You must answer all questions

• The first three questions have two parts that can include

  • Define questions, worth 2 marks

  • Explain questions, worth 3 marks

• The fourth is an analyse question, worth 5 marks

• Section A does not include a business context, but the question stem may refer to a particular type of business, industry or business circumstance

Section B

• Section B contains two questions of 20 marks - you will answer one question

• These are essay questions and have two parts

  • An analysis question, worth 8 marks

  • An evaluation question, worth 12 marks

• Section A does not include a business context either, but the question stem may refer to a particular type of business, industry or business circumstance, or may provide a quotation to which you must respond
