Hopefully you won’t need to visit a doctor in a French-speaking country, but in this revision note you will learn how to:

  • say that you are not feeling well

  • say that you have injured yourself

  • ask and answer the question ‘How are you?’

  • use the imperative to give an instruction or an order

At the doctor's: vocabulary

Some useful words and phrases for the topic of at the doctor’s are:

  • J’ai mal au / à / à l’ / aux … - My … hurt(s)

  • In English, we use the word ‘my’ when talking about body parts, e.g. ‘my hand hurts’

  • In French, use the definite article (‘the’), literally ‘the hand hurts’
