• Speakers will not always use simple, predictable vocabulary, so focus on understanding the overall meaning rather than individual words

  Ein großer Vorteil ist, dass meine Umgebung sehr ruhig und sicher ist. Es gibt Parks und Wälder in der Nähe. Ein Nachteil ist jedoch, dass es nicht viele Restaurants oder Kinos in der Nähe gibt - man muss mit dem Bus in die Stadt fahren. In der Zukunft würde ich vielleicht lieber im Zentrum der Stadt wohnen.
  A big advantage is that my neighbourhood is very quiet and safe. There are parks and forests nearby. A disadvantage however is that there are not many restaurants or cinemas nearby - you have to take the bus into town. In the future I might prefer to live in the city centre.

  Das Internet spielt eine sehr große Rolle in meinem Alltag. Ich benutze es jeden Tag, um Informationen zu finden und mit Freunden in Kontakt zu bleiben. Ohne Internet wäre es sehr schwierig, viele Dinge zu tun - zum Beispiel Hausaufgaben oder online Kleider kaufen. Ich finde jedoch, dass man aufpassen muss, nicht zu viel Zeit online zu verbringen, weil das gefährlich sein kann.
  The internet plays a very big role in my daily life. I use it every day to find information and stay in contact with friends. Without the internet it would be very difficult to do many things - for example homework or buying clothes online. However, I think you have to be careful not to spend too much time online because it can be dangerous.
  

• Möchtest du in der Zukunft in einem anderen Land leben? Warum oder warum nicht? Would you like to live in another country in the future? Why or why not?
  Das ist eine interessante Frage. Einerseits finde ich die Idee sehr aufregend - es wäre toll, eine neue Sprache zu lernen und eine andere Kultur zu erleben. Andererseits wäre ich sehr traurig ohne meine Familie und Freunde. Ich glaube, ich würde lieber in England bleiben, aber vielleicht für ein Jahr ins Ausland gehen, um neue Erfahrungen zu machen.
  That is an interesting question. On the one hand I find the idea very exciting - it would be great to learn a new language and experience another culture. On the other hand I would be very sad without my family and friends. I think I would rather stay in England, but perhaps go abroad for a year to gain new experiences.

• Never just answer yes or no - always extend your answer with a reason using weil, an opinion using ich finde, or extra detail

• At Foundation tier, even a simple extension like weil es ruhig ist shows good structure

• At Higher tier, aim to use a range of tenses - refer to the past (früher habe ich…) and future (in der Zukunft möchte ich…) as well as the present, and use obwohl to show a contrasting point

A disadvantage however is that there are not many shops nearby and you have to take the train or the bus. Nevertheless I think that living in the countryside has many advantages.

In the future I might prefer to live in a flat in the city centre, because life there would be more active and interesting. It would be practical to be able to reach everything on foot. On the other hand I find the peace and nature in the countryside very important and lovely. It is difficult to decide, but I think that one day I would like to move to a bigger city. My family and friends all live here, which is very important to me.
