The conditional is useful to say what you would like to visit as a tourist. Let's look at this grammar point in more detail.
Conditional
Vouloir is a modal verb meaning 'to want to'
Use its conditional forms followed by an infinitive to say 'would like to':
English | French | Examples | |
I would like to | je voudrais | Je voudrais visiter la tour Eiffel. | I would like to visit the Eiffel Tower. |
you would like to | tu voudrais | Voudrais-tu organiser la visite ? | Would you like to organise the visit? |
he / she/ we would like to | il / elle / on voudrait | Elle voudrait rechercher des informations sur Paris. | She would like to look up information about Paris. |
You can also follow it with a noun to say 'would like':
Je voudrais une glace
I would like an ice cream
Il voudrait deux billets
He would like two tickets
Higher tier only
For Higher tier, you also need to know how to use other verbs in the conditional
For regular -er verbs, add the following endings to the infinitive:
pronoun | ending | Examples | |
je | -ais | Je mangerais dans ce restaurant. | I would eat in this restaurant. |
tu | -ais | Tu recommanderais cet hôtel? | Would you recommend this hotel? |
il / elle / on | -ait | Il visiterait le musée. | He would visit the museum. |
These are the same endings as the imperfect tense, but here they are added to the infinitive rather than the imperfect stem
There are some irregular verbs in the conditional
You need to know these four verbs:

aller | j'irais tu irais il / elle / on irait | On irait en voiture. | We would go by car. |
avoir | j'aurais tu aurais il / elle / on aurait | Tu aurais un séjour génial. | You would have a brilliant stay. |
être | je serais tu serais il / elle / on serait | Je serais très content de découvrir la culture. | I would be very happy to discover the culture. |
faire | je ferais tu ferais il / elle / on ferait | Il ferait du sport sur la plage. | He would do sport on the beach. |
