Properties of electronic and mechanical components in commercial products

  • Commercial products are made from electrical and mechanical components because of their properties

  • For each commercial product, the material used will have properties which benefit the use of that product

Commercial products made from electrical and mechanical components

  • Domestic electrical appliances (electronic)

  • Motor vehicles (mechanical)

Functions of electronic and mechanical components and their uses

Motor vehicles

Material

Pressure sensors, light sensors and switches

General properties

Sensors to allow the car to be responsive to its environment

Performance properties

Sensors help a car to be safer, by sensing the spaces around the car and providing this as information to the driver

Mechanical properties

Uses mechanical inputs like switches or digital data from sensors such as light movement or sound readings

Physical properties

Support cars to become "smarter"

Domestic appliances

Material

Switches, timers, buzzers and lights

General properties

Switches allow the customer to turn the product on and off. Timers allow the customer to set an appliance working for a certain time. Lights and buzzers are outputs from an electronic device.

Performance properties

Provide an input into the appliance to help it work.

Mechanical properties

Mechanical switches are turned on and off by human touch
Timers can require programming using buttons
Light and sound outputs help the product function

Physical properties

Electronic soldered components into a circuit
