Technology

What is the role of media technologies?

  • Technology helps media reach audiences across multiple platforms

  • Platforms include:

    • TV

    • Social media

    • Streaming apps

    • Websites

  • These technologies also allow companies to track usage and gather data about audiences

  • Audiences can now consume media anytime and anywhere

  • This increases engagement and interaction with content

  • Technology serves:

    • Personal identity (custom Fortnite skins)

    • Social interaction (comments/streams)

    • Diversion (bingeing)

    • Surveillance (news alerts)

Examiner Tips and Tricks

You must link technology to a set product — a generic point about 'streaming' capped at a low band. Name the platform (e.g. ITVX, BBC Sounds, the game itself) and say how it changes the way that audience consumes the product.
