A schema is a mental representation — a packet of stored knowledge — built from a person’s pre-existing ideas, beliefs and concepts about people, places and events.
What may happen to details that do not fit a person’s schema?
They may be replaced with what the person expected to see — for example, recalling books on the shelves of an office when there were none.
