How can you demonstrate retinal disparity using your finger?

Define convergence.
Convergence is the inward movement of the eyes as they focus on an object that is close to us — ‘converge’ means come together.
How does convergence give the brain information about distance?
The muscles controlling the eyes work harder to turn them inward for a nearby object, and relax for a distant one. The brain uses this muscle feedback: more muscle tension means a closer object.
How can you demonstrate convergence?
Watch someone follow their own finger as it moves towards their nose — their pupils move towards the middle, so they go ‘cross-eyed’.
