The diagram explains how bricks are manufactured for the building industry in the UK. Overall, there are seven stages in this manufacturing process. It begins with the excavation of the clay from the quarry and ends with the delivery of the finished bricks to the building site.
First, the clay is excavated and put on a metal grid to remove impurities. Then, sand and water are added and the mixture is put into moulds to shape it into bricks. In the next stage, the bricks are dried in an oven for 24 to 48 hours, before being fired in kilns, initially at a temperature of 200 to 980 degrees and subsequently at a temperature of 870 to 1300 degrees.
Following this, the bricks are allowed to cool for up to three days in a cooling chamber. The finished bricks are then taken to a stockyard, where they are stored. When required, the bricks are loaded onto a lorry and transported to a building site.
