In Polish, we use a capital letter only for proper nouns, such as:
names of people - Kasia, Adam
countries - Polska, Anglia
cities - Warszawa, Londyn
Family words are common nouns, so they start with a lower-case letter like mama, tata, brat, siostra (unlike names, places and nationality nouns such as Polak)
