  • Communicable/infectious diseases are caused by pathogens and are transmissible (can be spread between individuals within a population)

  • Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) was the first virus to be isolated by scientists

  • It is a widespread plant pathogen that infects about 150 species of plants including tomato plants and cucumbers

Rose Black Spot

  • Rose black spot is a fungal disease of plants where purple or black spots develop on leaves, which often turn yellow and drop early

  • It affects the growth of the plant as photosynthesis is reduced

    It is spread in the environment by water or wind

  • Rose black spot can be treated by using fungicides and/or removing and destroying the affected leaves
